Strengthening School Management Committees (SMC)

Catholic Charities Jamshedpur (CCJ) is committed to advancing the Right to Education Act, 2009, ensuring quality education for all children aged 6-14 years. By fostering effective School Management Committees, the initiative empowers schools, parents, and local communities to improve educational outcomes.

Key Interventions:

1. Awareness Campaigns:
   • 4,483 SMC members, parents, and youth educated on the objectives, roles, and responsibilities of SMCs.
   • Focus on increasing accountability for school operations and student attendance.
2. Improving Regular Attendance:
3. Collaboration with village heads and Panchayati Raj elected members to ensure children attend school regularly.
4. Direct engagement with parents to emphasize the importance of education.
5. Coverage of 149 Primary Schools and 45 Middle Schools across 195 villages, facilitated by 13 partner NGOs.

Mary’s Meals Program

The Mary’s Meals program emphasizes the dual importance of education and nourishment as a means to alleviate poverty and promote child development.

Core Objectives:

1. Encouraging Education:
   • Provide meals as an incentive for children from deprived backgrounds to attend school.
   • Focus on formal and non-formal educational setups to increase literacy rates.
2. Nutritional Support:
3. Deliver meals to ensure children are nourished, enabling them to focus, learn, and grow.
4. Meals act as sustenance to combat hunger and improve overall health.
5. Supports 5,162 children in 12 schools across West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and East Singhbhum.
6. Encourages higher attendance, reduces dropout rates, and promotes better physical and mental well-being.
